2009 cider list

The Cider 2009

Hecks’ “Slack ma girdle” cider

Forget the silly beer names this blend is a corker of the best apples from the heart of the true cider county – and it’s said to “do what it says on the label”!! For more about the Hecks huge variety of ciders visit http://www.hecksfarmhousecider.co.uk/home.html

Sheppy’s Farmhouse “Dry”

From one of Somerset's larger traditional family cider makers. The Sheppy family have made cider in Bradford on Tone, near Taunton for over 200 years. See http://www.sheppyscider.com/index.php for more information.

West Croft Farm “Medium”

Established in the 1990’s John Harris’ product, made in the shadow of Brent Knoll near Burnham on Sea, has regularly won prizes across the country. See http://www.burnham-on-sea.co.uk/west_croft_cider/ for information

Perry’s Vintage Draught “Dry”

Aged in Oak casks for at least two years, Perry’s Vintage is considered one of the best. Produced at Dowlish Wake located close to the small town of Ilminster in the south of Somerset. Perrys won the Supreme Championship for cider at the 2008 Bath & West Show. See https://www.perryscider.co.uk/shop/ for more information

Wilkins’ Farmhouse

Ernie & Gertie’s “Dual variety dry”

Hecks’ “Blakeney Red” Perry

Forget Clarks Shoes, the Hecks family have been making great cider and perry in Street for six generations, as well as running a fantastic farm shop. Blakeney Red is a fantastic single variety perry that takes you back to a time before those awful little bottles of e bubbling sugary stuff started to be marketed as a “champagne perry” in the 1950s. Find out more at http://www.hecksfarmhousecider.co.uk/home.html

Rich’s Traditional “Medium” Cider

Cider has been produced at the village of Watchfield near Highbridge for over 50 years by the Rich family. The farm still uses the traditional custom of Wassailing to encourage good crops – it shows in the product that they produce. See http://www.richscider.co.uk/index.html for further information.

Tricky’s Traditional

Made at a “secret location” in the Blackdown Hills on the Devon/Somerset border Al & Steve take a carefully selected blend of local cider apples to produce a crisp, clear drink of the finest quality. For more information check out http://trickycider.com/

If you enjoy the cider on offer this year there are dozens of other cider producers in Somerset the REAL home of cider. To get to know them all (and that’s a tall order) why not have a good look at http://www.somersetcider.co.uk/index.html
